February Wrap-Up

A few notable things happened in February, so I thought I’d do a quick wrap-up post!

Firstly, I was absolutely delighted to discover that my collection Pick Your Potion appeared on both the 2024 Locus Recommended Reading List and the British Science Fiction Awards longlist. I’m so glad that people enjoyed it so much. Thank you!

Here’s a screenshot from Locus:

Secondly, I had a short piece of weird horror called “Baby” come out in NonBinary Review Issue #39: Mistaken Identity. It’s about a woman who is hearing voices and who doesn’t understand why her body is suddenly falling apart.

Here’s a small snippet:

“I wash the sleep sweats from my skin at the sink and dress for the day. There is a swollen, scarlet crack in the middle of my lower lip that looks like it was recently bleeding, that I somehow acquired overnight. I am probably going mad; I am nobody’s ‘baby’. My father died when I was a child and then my mother five years ago. I’ve not had a paramour since she passed.”

Lastly, although I rarely take quizes these days, I thought I’d mention that I took the “What emotion do you create from?” quiz that was going around a little while ago, and I got ‘love’. I was surprised initially, but then realised that was exactly right. Everything I create is inspired by the people and things that I love in one way or another. It was the most interesting and accurate quiz that I’d seen for a long time, so if you’re a creator, you might enjoy taking it, too.
